The team
Four specialists in production, engineering, lighting and acoustics, working together on every studio project from Exeter.
The people planning your studio
jurnizo is a small team, and the people you speak to at the start are the ones who do the work. Each of us looks after one part of a studio.
-
Helen Marsden
Founder and Head of ProductionHelen has directed live studio programmes for more than twenty years and leads project planning at jurnizo.
-

-

Why a small team suits live television
Live broadcasting leaves little room for confusion between the person who designs a system and the person who installs it. Keeping the team small means decisions are made once and carried through the whole project.
One plan, many hands
Production, engineering, lighting and acoustics are often treated as separate jobs, which is where gaps appear. Here, all four disciplines work from the same written plan. If a lighting choice affects a camera position, or a treatment affects a monitor, it is discussed early rather than discovered during commissioning. The result is fewer changes late in a project and a clearer record of why each decision was made.
Checked on site
We prefer to measure and test in the room itself. Callum commissions every installation personally, and Owen takes acoustic readings before recommending any treatment. Priya adjusts lighting while watching the camera output, not from a drawing alone. This takes time, but it means the studio is judged by how it performs, not by how it looked on paper or in a specification.
Written down and handed over
Each project ends with documents your own team can use: drawings, labelling schedules, lighting scenes and notes on the acoustic treatment. Helen insists on a handover where operators try the system themselves and ask questions. We would rather spend an extra hour on this than receive a call at eleven at night because nobody knew which input was which.
